The original playhouse was built for J. M. Barrie's play, Peter Pan. After arriving in Neverland, Wendy Darling is shot by the Lost Boy 'Tootles', and so Peter Pan and the Lost Boys built a small house around her where she has fallen.

A prop house was created by Barrie for the the play in 1904, and was constructed like a tent, so that it could be raised rapidly during a song that Wendy sings. Barrie's hat was used as a chimney and a slipper was used as a door knocker. Toy manufacturers soon created replicas of the 'Wendy house', which have since become a standard popular toy found in British gardens ever since.

As you can see, we have one of the most vast compilations of wooden playhouses in the UK (almost 50 to choose from!). Here are just a few of the choices on offer for imaginative outdoor playhouses here at All Round Fun:

• Outlook and tower playhouses, many including ladders to climb and slides for your children to excitably cascade down.

• Plain wooden playhouses with lots of room (and safety features such as child safe styrene glazed windows), allowing both you and your child the project of decorating and filling the playhouse.

• Army command playhouses.

• Log cabin playhouses.

• Two storey cottage playhouses.

• Playhouses with fortresses.

• Playhouses with added activity sets including swings.

All woods used are used using sustainable timber certified by the Forest Standards Committee, and treated using various methods (such as pressure treatments and resin coatings) to reduce damage from water, the weather and insects.
