What is the difference between a sauna and a steam room?
Although steam rooms and saunas are similar, they differ in one key way — a sauna gives dry heat from a stove, and a steam room gives wet, humid heat.
Infrared saunas take things one step further. Whilst traditional saunas heat the air around you, infrared saunas heat your body directly, providing you with a more efficient experience.
Because of this, the temperature in a steam room is usually lower than that of a sauna, although a steam room has a much higher humidity.
How to use an infrared sauna
As saunas are hot, there is an acute risk of dehydration. This is why people who use these rooms should spend no longer than 20 minutes inside. Before use, you should drink plenty of water, and if you feel faint, you should leave the room straight away.
You should not use a sauna or steam room if you have any of the following conditions:
- Pregnancy
- Heart disease
- Epilepsy
- Low blood pressure
- High blood pressure
You should also not use a steam room or sauna if you are:
- Taking antibiotics
- Are under the influence of drugs or alcohol
Getting the most from your home sauna
Once your new infrared sauna is installed, you’ll be able to feel the benefits right away. Many of our saunas have a USB CD player and radio, meaning you can relax in style whilst listening to your favourite music. As well as this, infrared saunas have low running costs and are easy to clean and maintain.
